detailed description

  • on the scheduled day around 6:00 pm the local cooker (only speaks Portuguese) will arrive and make dinner. She will bring all that is needed to prepare the chosen dish. If you wish you are welcome to see her preparing the food, and eventually take notes. In addition to the main dish the menu includes a dessert that will be ordered from a local bakery 

  • besides preparing dinner the cook will leave the table ready and the kitchen clean. It is up to you to serve your dinner when you feel like it

tomato soup with pork and regional sausages

bread and asparagus or broccoli (depending on the season) pudding with fried cubes of pork meat, seasoned with a pepper and paprika pasta

"sopa de beldroegas"

purslane soup (vegetarian), only available in Summer 

“cozido de grão

a kind of stew made with chickpeas, pumpkin, carrots, green beans, mint and meat (veal, pork and regional sausages). For vegetarians can be cooked without the meat

dessert options

“sericaia com ameixa de Elvas

tradicional egg pudding, cooked in the oven in a clay plate, with a final dash of cinnamon, topped with tradicional Elvas’ plums


sweet and moist, its composition is mainly based on sugar and egg yolks

“arroz doce

creamy rice pudding

“toucinho do céu

sweet, moist, dense almond cake made with pork lard. Literally translated as “bacon from heaven”

barriga de freira

a creamy conventual dessert made with eggs, almonds and bread with a final dash of cinnamon. Literally translated as “nun’s tummy” 


original from Convent of Vila Viçosa, these sweets ingredients are mainly bread, almonds, squash, eggs and sugar.
